The forthcoming five-year economic development plan (2016-2021) envisages reduction in the number of drug addicts by 25%, by the end of the plan period, said Alireza Jazini, deputy secretary general of Iran’s Drug Control Headquarters. “At present, there are more than 1.5 million drug users in the country of whom 10% are women,” IRNA quoted him as saying. Currently, 20% of the workforce and 2.6% of university students are plagued by addiction, he added.
