Over 450,000 liters of plasma will be produced during the next Iranian calendar year (starts March 20), says Ali Akbar Pourfathollah, Managing Director of Iran Blood Transfusion Organization.

“The figure could reach 600,000 liters in the following years,” he said, ISNA reported.

The current level of plasma production in the country is 400,000 liters, but there is still a deficit of 200,000 liters in order to reach self-reliance.

Last month, the World Health Organization introduced Iran as a successful model for producing plasma-derived medicine. In February, the Tehran Blood Transfusion Center received the biennial certification for optimal plasma production from CSL-Plasma Inc. in Germany for the first time.
