The clinical head of Ahwaz University of Medical Sciences said the number of respiratory patients in Ahwaz has risen due to increase in air pollution compared to the previous calendar year. Iraj Nazari told ILNA the current number of patients is reported to be between 1000 and 1500, among which 100 have been hospitalized. He said fortunately, there had been ‘’no fatalities so far.” Nazari said the sources of pollution have not been verified yet, but the presence of nearby industrial factories and oil refineries are thought to be the main causes of the problem.
