Traffic Fines Surge

Iran’s Traffic Police is taking measures to help prevent the high rate of traffic accidents, casualties, and violations by stepping up traffic fines in the upcoming new Iranian year (starts March 20). “Stiffer traffic penalties will be enforced as of March 15,” said Police Chief General Taghi Mehri, ISNA reported. The new fines will see an increase by 20%-100% in different categories of traffic violations. Iran remains high on the list of countries with the most number of road accidents and casualties. Around 28,000 traffic deaths and 300,000 injuries/disabilities are recorded annually.
