International observances, which mark an issue of international interest or concern, are opportunities to present the achievements and challenges faced by the global community, said Vice President for Women and Family Affairs Shahindokht Molaverdi on the occasion of International Women’s Day (March 8).

“Each nation observes Women’s Day according to its cultural background. The international day provides a chance to voice and share common concerns and problems of women across the globe and we all must cooperate and promote the status of women,” she said, ISNA reported. Referring to migrant women, particularly from war-stricken regions, she hoped all women would join hands to alleviate their plight. “We have special plans for the National Women’s Week (March 30-April 6), although we are also observing the international event along with the world.”

The 2016 theme for International Women’s Day is “Planet 50-50 by 2030: Step It Up for Gender Equality.”
