During the implementation of the first phase of the plan to protect working children “we identified around 5,000 street children in the country, of which 40% are foreign nationals, mostly Afghans,” said Habibollah Masoudi Farid, deputy for social affairs at the State Welfare Organization (SWO). “At present, the plan is under implementation in five provinces of Tehran, Alborz, Hamedan, Khuzestan and Chahar Mahal and Bakhtiari,” ISNA quoted him as saying.  After identification of the children, “we get in touch with their families and try to help solve their grievances.”  Jobs are also provided for an adult member in the family who is able to work.
