Iran ranks third worldwide in organ donation and is the only country in the world that has addressed the shortage of transplant organs through a legal payment system for organ donation since 1988. It is also the only country where organ trade is legal. According to global statistics, Spain has the highest rate of organ donation in the world with 36 per million people. Specialized in respiratory and lung diseases, the hospital is affiliated to Tehran’s Shahid Beheshti University and has performed nearly 100 lung and 200 heart transplants.
