The Health Ministry has plans to reduce the maternal mortality rate (MMR) to zero by 2030, said Mohammad Esmaeil Motlaq, head of the ministry’s Population, School and Family Health Office. “The ministry is set to decrease MMR to zero by 2030 from the current 20 deaths per 100,000 live births,” he said, IRNA reported. It is also planned to reduce infant mortality rate by half, to seven in every 1,000 live births in the upcoming economic development plan (March 2016-21) from the current 13.8, and to zero by 2030.
