Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic will deliver a speech at the opening ceremony of the 5th Symposium of World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies (WFNS), 7th International Neurosurgery Congress, and 1st International Neuroscience Confederation Congress, to be held April 17-22 at Tehran’s Espinas Palace Hotel, announced Professor Majid Samii, a distinguished neurosurgeon.

“Prominent scientific figures from Germany, China and Serbia will also attend the confab,” said Samii who is the event president, Mehr News Agency reported.

Last week Prof. Samii received the Golden Order of Merit from the Serbian leader for his scientific achievements and long-term cooperation with Serbia.

President of WFNS Prof. Yong-Kwang Tu, president of Iranian Neurosurgical Society Prof. Hamid Rahmat, and prime minister of the German state of Lower Saxony Stephan Weil, will also be among the keynote speakers.

Founded in 1955, the WFNS is a professional, scientific, non-governmental organization comprising five continental associations, 114 national neurosurgical societies and five affiliate societies, representing some 30,000 neurosurgeons worldwide. Its mission is to work together with member societies to improve worldwide neurosurgical care, training and research to benefit patients.

One of the valuable outcomes of the joint event will be the publication of the speeches by the distinguished speakers. “It is my strong belief that the confab will bring much positive attention to neurosciences,” Samii said.

Previous editions of the symposium were held in Taipei, Taiwan; Lisbon, Portugal; Yunnan (Lijiang), China; and Malaga, Spain.
