The first natural delivery where a trained spouse was allowed to watch the birth of his child was conducted at Tehran’s Milad Hospital, said Dr. Mahmoudreza Fayaz, hospital managing director. “The husband’s presence in the delivery room is a supportive factor, and is in line with the policies of the Health Reform Plan launched in 2014 that aim to increase natural childbirth, particularly in first-time mothers,” he said, the Persian-language daily ‘Iran’ reported. Interested parents can take childbirth preparation classes available at hospitals that educate and train fathers and mothers for natural delivery. This year, 365 ‘labor without pain’ centers are being established across the country where husbands can be beside their spouses during delivery, Health Minister Hassan Qazizadeh Hashemi had said last August.
