Iran ranks first in the world in production of cold water fish and 23th in marine aquaculture, said Mahdi Khalaj, head of the Iran Veterinary Organization on Tuesday, on the sidelines of the first national conference on cold-water fish vaccination in Tehran. A new domestically-made vaccine for cold-water fish was also unveiled, IRNA reported. Rainbow trout and other farmed fish can be protected from disease risks if the vaccination strategy is optimized, he said. Vaccination plays an important role in large-scale commercial fish farming and has been a key reason for the success of cultivated fish.
