After three years of research, scientists at Razi Vaccine and Serum Research Institute in Karaj, Alborz Province, have developed Specific Pathogen Free (SPF) eggs.  The product will be marketed by mid-March 2015, said Dr. Mohammad Majid Ebrahimi, who led the research. The Department of Science and Technology at the president’s office supported the project, IRNA reported.

SPF eggs are free from vertically transmitted agents including ‘salmonella,’ ‘avian adenovirus,’ ‘avian encephalomyelitis virus’ and other agents.

In addition, the SPF eggs are also free from laterally transmitted infections such as Newcastle disease, infectious bronchitis and avian influenza.
