Screening of children for hearing between three and five years of age has started from Tuesday in Tehran and 12 other provinces, said Majid Rezazadeh, head of the Development and Prevention Center at the State Welfare Organization. “We will cover all 31 provinces from the next calendar year (starts March 20),” ISNA quoted him as saying. Hearing impairment can affect a child’s ability to develop communication, language, and social skills, therefore it is important to screen children for deafness early.
