In the first ten months of the current Iranian year (ends March 19), more than 72,000 marriages were registered in the country, said Susan Bastani, deputy for parliamentary affairs at the Vice-Presidency for Women and Family Affairs. Between 1972 and 2007, the marriage rate showed a gradual increase but after 2007 the rate has shown a significant decline, Alef News Agency quoted her as saying. “Currently there is one divorce per 4.4 marriages in the country,” she added.
