Yemen’s Health Ministry has appealed to save 1700 patients requiring kidney implant as the country continues to suffer from acute shortage of life-saving medicines due to the ongoing military conflict that has led to the worst humanitarian crisis. In a statement published by the official Saba news agency, the ministry said the patients face inevitable death if emergency aid including medicines is not provided as all medicines for kidney patients have run out. Yemen’s healthcare system has deteriorated with most hospitals shut down primarily because of lack of medicine, electric power and fuel, blamed on the ten-month blockade on all sea, land and air ports, part of the Saudi-led military intervention that started last March.
