A pharmacopeia (list of authorized medicinal products) has been drawn up by the Food and Drug Administration in order to prevent physicians from prescribing medications outside the list, said FDA head Rasoul Dinarvand. “The proposal has been sent to the Majlis (parliament) by the Health Ministry for approval,” he said, ISNA reported. Mehdi Pirsalehi, director general of Monitoring Medicines Office at the FDA, said by prescribing medicines outside of the authorized list, doctors impose extra cost on the healthcare system. Besides, it misleads and causes confusion among patients. “Prices and insurance coverage of medications will also be included in the new list,” he said.
