The Judiciary is reviewing a ‘Prison Inmate Population Reduction’ program to be implemented as per a decree by the Leader, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, said Ali Asghar Jahangir, head of the Prisons Organization. “The process comprises a series of measures including revision in the law, using alternative methods of punishment, and supporting families of inmates, “ he said IRNA reports. House arrest with and without electronic monitoring is being studied and will soon be piloted. Plans also call for preparing inmates to enter the production cycle once they are back in the society. The program will come into effect under the upcoming five-year economic development plan (2016-21).
