In a meeting with JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) representatives in Tehran on Monday, deputy health minister Ali Sayyari discussed cooperation in relation to expanding primary healthcare to residents in outlying areas.

“A large number of people in shanty towns around cities face the risk of non-communicable diseases, and programs are necessary to meet their medical needs,” he said, Borna News Agency reported.

Presently there is one health expert for every 2,000-3,000 urban residents, one health station for every 12,000 people and one healthcare center for every 30,000-50,000 people in the suburban areas.
