Avoiding Antibiotics

Nearly 80% of all colds are viral, and no antibiotics should be used to treat them, said Dr. Kheirollah Gholami, the head of pharmacies affiliated to the Tehran University of Medical Sciences. “Most cases of cold only need good rest and a great deal of fluids intake, and people must refrain from using antibiotics without a doctor’s prescription,” he told IRNA. Almost every type of bacteria has become stronger and less responsive to antibiotic treatment when it is really needed. The national rate of antibiotic consumption is above the global average and requires efficient planning for a definitive control strategy, Gholami stressed.
