Special breastfeeding areas called ‘mother and child’ rooms have been set up at three subway stations in Tehran, namely Imam Khomeini, Sadeqieh and Valiasr, to help and accommodate nursing mothers. “Three more are planned by the end of the current fiscal year (March 20), and the project will be gradually extended to every subway station in the capital,” says Mohsen Nayebi, managing director of Tehran Urban and Suburban Railway Company, the Persian-language daily ‘Sharq’ reported. The subway nursing rooms aim to encourage breastfeeding, as it yields tremendous health benefits for babies, providing critical nutrients, and fostering growth and development.
