Research Share in GDP 1%

The share of research in the budget bill in the upcoming Iranian calendar year (starts March 21) is set at 1% of the national GDP, up from 0.47% in the current year, said Sourena Sattari, Vice President for Science and Technology. “The country’s top-ranking universities in particular are given priority in allocating resources,” he said at the 21st annual Razi Medical Sciences Research Festival at Tehran’s Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences, Borna News Agency reported. He added that Iran with 4.8 million university students ranks 5th in the world in terms of population with higher education.
