The number of total Kowsar rehabilitative centers increased to 140 across the country this year (ends March 19), up from 130 in the previous year, said Fahimeh Firouzgar, director of the Office for Empowerment of Women Breadwinners at the Tehran Municipality. “The 7.5% growth in the number of centers over the previous year will further boost their empowerment,” she said, Mehr News Agency reported. The centers, supervised by the office, provides counseling services as well as vocational training to female breadwinners to enable them join the national production cycle.
The total number of female-headed households in the country has seen a 55% upswing from 1.2 million in 1991 to 2.5 million in 2015.
