Tehran’s governorate is piloting a plan dubbed “Sustainable Marriage and Prosperous Family” in Shemiranat County of Tehran. “The plan, to come into effect in two weeks, is seen as a prospective solution to the high number of divorces, most of which occur during the first year of marriage,” Siavash Shahrivar, head of the social affairs dept. told the Young Journalists Club. The scheme will study the problems and issues concerning the youth intending to get married, as well as the first year of marriage. Under the plan, young couples will be provided counseling services in a plethora of areas by 100 psychologists, and receive mental support in the first year of married life. Counseling will also be available on problem solving, critical thinking and decision-making and successful communication strategies in an effort to reduce the divorce rate. The program will be implemented on a larger scale if the pilot phase is successful.
