The exact strains of microorganisms used in probiotic products is required to be written on the products’ labels, as there are many different types of probiotics and all have different properties, said Behrouz Jannat, director general of the Food and Drugs Research Laboratory at the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).  “Manufactures should provide information about the minimum viable count of organisms per gram; as sometimes some manufacturers claim their products contain probiotic bacteria but the count or the organism viability is too low to be effective,” IRNA quoted him as saying. Probiotics are live bacteria and yeast that are good for health, especially for the digestive system.
