Many Lives Lost to Stroke, Cancer

Despite all the efforts by the health care system in the past three decades, non-infectious diseases such as stroke, heart disease, cancer and accident-related deaths are taking lives on a huge scale. Some 200,000 Iranians die each year from non-infectious causes, ISNA reported. Based on data released from 2012, the leading causes of death were heart disease (25%), strokes (13%), accidents and injuries (7%), as well as 30,000 cancer-related deaths.  The prevalence of mental illness is reported to be 23.6% among the population.
