The Tehran Urban and Suburban Railways Organization has launched a program to distribute free books in subway stations across Tehran in to promote a culture of reading. “Similar programs have been conducted in Tehran’s subway over the years since reading plays a significant role in the cultural development of the masses,” said Mohammad Sa’ebi, social-cultural deputy of the organization, ISNA reported. In cooperation with Qoqnoos Publication and the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance, the plan is underway till December 15at two interchange stations of Darvazeh Shemiran in central Tehran and the Sadeqieh junction to the west. In the past decade the subway network in the capital has expanded immensely and now includes 90 junctions compared to the 35 in 2006. The metro expansion program continues to this day with new stations being constructed to link some northern parts of Tehran to the network.
