More than 1.2 million births have been registered since the beginning of the current Iranian year (ends March 19) and the number of deaths was 286,300, said Ali Akbar Mahzoun, head of the National Organization for Civil Registration. About 78% of the newborns were in urban areas of the country, IRNA reported. After a decline in the population growth rates and based on Iran’s current population policies outlined by the Leader, plans and programs have been announced to improve the birth rates. As per latest available data the total population is said to be 80 million.
