In the first eight months of the current year (ends March 19), the number of road crash victims declined by 2.7% compared to the same period last year, deputy head of the traffic police, Brigadier General Taqi Mehri said. “In the eight months, 11,867 people lost their lives in traffic accidents,” IRNA quoted him as saying. Road accidents in Iran are attributed to several reasons, namely unsafe driving, flouting traffic rules, speeding, the bad condition of inter-city highways and roads  and poor quality of home-made vehicles some of which lack international safety standards.
