In cooperation with an American research team, researchers at the Tehran University of Medical Sciences have developed nanostructures which heal heart tissues damaged in a heart attack. “A protein coding gene called FSTL1 has an important role in healing the myocardium tissue which is the most important damaged tissue after a heart attack,” said Morteza Mahmoudi, project manager. According to Mahmoudi, nano-structured collagen scaffolds containing FSTL1 were developed which have the same physical and mechanical properties as a fetal myocardium. The results of the search have been published in Nature Magazine, vol. 525, Mehr News Agency reported.
