Kindergartens, preschools and primary schools in Kahrizak district and Rey County in the south of Tehran Province are closed on Monday due to air pollution.
A crisis committee for Tehran's air pollution announced the decision late Sunday. However, it announced that schools in the city of Tehran remain open on Monday, IRNA reported.
Tehran’s air pollution hit its worst level last week, or seven times above the World Health Organization’s standards, forcing officials to close schools for three days and warn people against unnecessary open-door activities.
According to official statistics published in 2012, approximately 4,400 people die prematurely in Tehran due to air pollution every year.
