Nearly, 1,509 drivers are languishing in jail as they are unable to pay blood money (Diyyah) in fatal road accidents, said Seyyed Asadollah Joulaei, managing director of the National Office for Blood Money. He blamed the “endless supply of cheap motorcycles” as the main culprit for the high number of traffic accidents in the country, IRNA reported. He apparently forgot to mention the recklessness and lawlessness of the motorcycle drivers who create havoc for pedestrians and motorists alike across the country. Currently, there are more than 7 million unsafe and substandard motorcycles being used in Tehran alone, he added.
