Over 11,000 families with two or more disabled members supported by the State Welfare Organization were identified and registered for provision of disabled-friendly housing, said Minister of Cooperatives, Labor, and Social Welfare Ali Rabiei. “A total of 11,500 families were listed for the special housing by mid-2016,” he said, IRNA reported. Around 32% of the families live in rural areas and 68% are urban dwellers. During a recent visit to Mashhad in Khorasan Razavi Province, 72 residential units were handed over to the families, he said. In July, the Bonyad Mostazafan (a foundation for the oppressed and disabled founded in 1979 as per a decree by the late Imam Khomeini) signed a memorandum of understanding with the SWO to provide housing to families with disabled members.
