    Cochlear Implant

More than 8,000 cochlear implants have been performed in Iran so far, said Mohammad Farhadi, minister of science, technology and research. “There are 11 cochlear implant centers active across the country, and nearly 3,600 implants were done at Tehran’s Cochlear Implant Center” he said, Borna News Agency reported. A cochlear implant is an electronic medical device that replaces the function of the damaged inner ear. Unlike hearing aids, which make sounds louder, cochlear implants do the work of damaged parts of the inner ear (cochlea) to provide sound signals to the brain. The first cochlear implant in Iran was performed 25 years ago.
