Seven million doses of domestically-produced polio vaccine has been provided to the Health Ministry since the beginning of this year (started March 21), said Hamid Kahram, head of Razi Vaccine and Serum Research Institute on Monday. Explaining why the polio vaccine production had been halted, he said due to the recent Ebola outbreak in several African countries, “we weren’t able to import research monkeys we need for vaccine quality control and testing,” IRNA quoted him as saying. The vaccine available at present is sufficient to meet the country’s demand for the next four years.
