The average age of prisoners has declined to 30 years, while it was 36 in the last decade, said Asghar Jahangir, head of Iran’s Prisons Organization, adding that most of the cyber criminals are in the 16-17 age bracket.

Close to 64% of those languishing in the prisons are married. Iran’s total prison population is reported at 210,672.

“Since we don’t provide enough support to the families of inmates, most of them are likely to face social problems due to lack of income, ILNA quoted him as saying.

It is reported that 46% of ex-offenders return to prison after being released, as most have difficulty finding a job and returning to normal life and often revert to their criminal activities.
