The average age of strabismus surgery (to correct misalignment of the eye) is one year globally while it is three years in the country. The surgery might not be as effective after the age of two years, said Dr Zhaleh Rajavi, a member of the scientific committee of the 25th Annual Congress of Iranian Society of Ophthalmology.
Delayed treatment of the eye muscle surgery can lead to permanent vision loss, IRNA quoted her as saying.
Strabismus is a condition that interferes with binocular vision because it prevents a person from directing both eyes simultaneously towards the same fixation point.
The congress was held on December 14 at Tehran’s Razi International Conference Center.
