The share of research in gross domestic production is planned to reach 4% by 2025, Minister of Science, Research and Technology Mohammad Farhadi said at the weekend.

“At the moment, the share of scientific research in GDP is a mere 0.47%, but is set to increase to 3% by the end of the sixth five-year economic development plan (2016-2021), and to 4% by 2025,” he said at a function on the occasion of the National Week of Research and Technology (December 13-20).

Education plays a significant role in making a nation an international scientific hub, and the academic system should institutionalize the culture of research and exploration in students from the early years, he said, ILNA reported.
