Although heart stroke usually affects people in their 70s and 80s, the average age of the disease has decreased to 40 in the country, said Dr Mohammad Hussein Mandegar, father of heart transplant surgery in Iran. He warned that stress, noise and air pollution, fast foods and excessive salt and saturated fat consumption are among the most important risk factors of heart attack and stroke, IRNA quoted him as saying. The National Cardiology Congress will be held by the Iranian Society of Interventional Cardiology and Heart Association of Iran on December 18 in Tehran. The first heart transplant in Iran was performed in 1993 by Mandegar.
