Poultry Consumption

Annual per capita consumption of poultry in Iran is 20 kg. Around 90% of poultry products are supplied in raw form and only 10% in processed products, said Hossein Rastegar, head of the Food and Drug Laboratory Research Center in Tehran. He said that if left unchecked, antibiotic residues in chicken enter the food chain and this can increase antibiotic resistance among the people, so routine inspections should be performed during poultry production, IRNA reported.
