The death toll due to swine flu has reached eight in Sistan-Baluchistan Province in southeastern Iran, said Hussein Ali Shahriari, head of the Majlis Health Commission and MP from Zahedan.

“So far, eight people have lost their lives to the flu in the province, however, the reason behind the sudden outbreak is still unknown,” he said on Monday, reports ICANA.

The outbreak of swine flu was reported last week in two provinces of Kerman and Sistan-Baluchistan.

By late Monday the death toll in Kerman Province had increased to 28. Provincial schools were closed for two days to check the spread of the H1N1 influenza.

Health Minister Hassan Qazizadeh Hashemi is visiting Kerman on Thursday to look into the situation.
