Women between 45-49 years of age are more likely to be subject to domestic violence, says Dr. Shahla Moazzami, a criminal science and criminology instructor at Tehran University.
“Based on recent research, almost 66% of the female population in Iran has experienced domestic violence, most of which takes place in the form of psychological and verbal abuse,” she said at a conference on ‘Prohibiting Domestic Violence’ on Tuesday.
She added that only less than one-third of women who fall victim to various forms of abuse are willing to report or file a lawsuit, reports ISNA.
At present, there is no international or national convention to prevent acts of violence against women and girls.
