The antibiotic ‘Ceftriaxone’ has the highest rate of adverse drug reactions (ADR) as reported by the Iranian ADR Monitoring Center at the Food and Drug Administration. “The antibiotic also claims the highest number of deaths related to drug use at the center’s databank,” said Seyyed Ali Vakili, FDA’s deputy head for North Khorasan Province, Moj News Agency reported.

The most common ADRs associated with the medicine are changes in white blood cell counts, rash, and diarrhea. He said indiscriminate use of the drug without prescription is the main cause of escalating ADR rates, stressing that pharmacies that offer the drug without a doctor’s prescription will face legal action.
