During the first eight months of the current year (started March 21), nearly 723 people were arrested for suspected cyber crime in Tehran Province, including 609 men and 114 women, Tehran Police Chief Hussein Sajedinia said.
Identification of cybercrimes has increased by 79% in the province, he said. Unauthorized access to people’s computer systems, withdrawals from bank accounts, phishing or attempts to acquire sensitive information such as usernames, passwords, and debit card details were among the common cybercrimes, Alef News Agency quoted him as saying.
Lack of updated systems, software and anti-viruses is the main reason for contamination of the country’s cyber space.
