Nearly 71% of school dropouts have illiterate parents, according to the latest survey. Also, 80% of domestic farmers are illiterate or have low levels of literacy and “this has impacted the quality of crop production,” said Mohammad Mahdizadeh, deputy head of Iran’s Literacy Movement organization (LMO). “Iran ranks 110 among 182 countries in terms of literacy rate, which is unsatisfactory.  Around 1.3 million in the country are absolute illiterates,” IRNA quoted him as saying.
