Pre-divorce counseling has resulted in reducing divorce statistics by 50 percent in some of the provinces; therefore the centers will be established in other parts of the country in the near future, said Dr. Majid Rezazadeh, head of prevention and development center at the State Welfare Organization (SWO).

At present there are 1200 state-run and private counseling centers in the country of which 120 offer couple’s divorce prevention strategies and training in ways of spousal compromise.

Pre-divorce counseling will be made mandatory, and all couples who want to divorce should refer to these counseling centers.

“We intend to develop the centers across the country to reduce the divorce rates, Mehr news agency quoted Rezazadeh as saying.
