The Food and Drug Administration is giving priority to controlling non-communicable diseases through food safety measures, said Dr. Rasoul Dinarvand, head the FDA.

“Our target is to remove trans fat, reduce salt and sugar in food products, and bring down toxic residues,” he said, Borna News Agency reported.

Noting that the FDA has made great progress in this regard, Dinarvand stressed that consistency is the key in prioritizing communal health and wellbeing.

Under the auspices of the Health Ministry, the FDA is serious in tackling unhealthy trends in eating habits, and is ensuring that violators in food production and distribution will be prosecuted, he noted.
