World Prematurity Day

World Prematurity Day is observed on November 17. Around 15 million babies are born prematurely each year, that is, 1 in 10 babies born worldwide.

Of these, around 1 million babies die from complications due to prematurity. More than three-quarters of the babies could be saved through better access to quality care and medicines for both mother and baby, the WHO website reported.

In Iran, 12% of births are premature.  In an effort to improve preterm birth outcome, the WHO has published recommendations for managing premature births that are designed to save lives and improve the health of preterm infants.
