Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is increasing on an average of 15-20% per year in the country, said Dariush Arman, a board member of the Iran Association of Kidney Patients. The main reason for the problem is that many people are unaware of their high blood pressure which can injure both the blood vessels in and leading to the kidneys, causing several types of renal diseases, IRNA quoted him as saying. At present, there are 25,000 patients undergoing dialyses and Iranian surgeons have transplanted over 35,000 kidneys so far.
