Mostafa Ghanei, head of the biotechnology headquarters, which functions under the president’s deputy for science and technology, announced that 12 domestically-manufactured recombinant (new combinations of genetic materials) medicines will hit the markets in two years. Ghanei pointing to Iran’s 24% biotech market share in the region said “it’s a good position.” At the moment, “we have marketed 18 recombinant medicines, 15 diagnostic kits, 40 different types of medical equipment, and 10 biological fertilizer products and rank 4th in Asia,” Mehr news agency reported him as saying.
