The Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) will refurbish a civilian passenger plane to serve as an air ambulance, said Seyed Amir Mohsen Ziaee, head of the society. It will convert the aircraft, (to be offered by Iranian airline Mahan Air) into an aerial hospital specially fitted with medical emergency equipment, Ziaee said recently at a meeting with 20 Iranian ambassadors and senior diplomats during their visit to Tehran, Mehr News Agency reported. The move will help the IRCS provide immediate relief services for the sick and injured during contingencies in rugged terrain by linking up with ground ambulance services, he said.
